There’s a contagion spreading through the suburbs of Chicago which could best be described as Matt Damon Fever. The actor has been shooting the a movie appropriately titled Contagion in various towns outside of Chicago, including Waukegan, Evanston, Wilmette, and Glencoe.
The movie, about the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors at the CDC who are left to deal with the outbreak, is being directed by Steven Soderbergh and also stars Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Cranston and Jude Law, but its Damon that’s been drawing the crowds over the past couple of weeks.
Yesterday hundreds of fans braved the freezing cold temperatures in downtown Western Springs, IL in hopes of catching a glimpse of Damon shooting outside “McGrath’s Wine and Spirits”, which was actually a vacant building on Burlington Avenue transformed for the shoot. Damon reportedly waved to gawkers several times between takes and briefly posed with a few fans before leaving fr the day.
Even though he’s shooting in the suburbs, he’s staying in Chicago and was spotted watching the New England Patriots beat the New York Jets Monday night at Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap. He was reportedly hanging out with about 15 members of the Contagion crew drinking Lagunitas Farmhouse Saison beer. The bar seems like an unlikely spot for an Oscar winner (its a bit touristy/divey) but, that’s the thing about Matt Damon, he can chill anywhere, especially when his hometown team is killing the competition.
If you’re in Chicago today and want to catch that Matt Damon Fever, he’ll be returning to Evanston, IL, where Sherman Ave, between Noyes and Central Streets, will be closed to accommodate the shoot.
