May:
Warm weather makes May a great time to visit New York City with fewer crowds.
  
May Weather:

  • May offers great weather for visiting New York City — it’s warm enough to spend a lot of time walking around, but cool enough to remain comfortable.

What to Wear:

  • summer crowds have not yet arrived

  • the full roster of summer events and activities is not yet underway

Good to Know:

  • Memorial Day is the last Monday in May and it’s a holiday to commemorate those who’ve died in defense of America. It also marks the beginning of summer for many Americans. Many New Yorkers leave for the holiday, but aside from government offices, banks and post offices and some smaller stores, most tourist services remain open.

June marks the beginning of summer in New York City with many free events.

June Weather:

  • Average Low: 64°F (18°C)
  • June’s warm weather welcomes visitors to New York City who want to enjoy walking the streets of New York City, and the many exciting summer activities in the city.

What to Wear:

  • pack an umbrella
  • a sweater
  • closed toe shoes, comfortable for walking and water-resistant if possible
  • a picnic blanket is great if you want to check out some of the free concerts and movies

June Perks:

  • warm weather for visiting New York City, but not as hot as the rest of summer
